VBS 2008
Louanne on Jun 23rd 2008
Last week was VBS at our church and it was the smoothest one yet. But that doesn’t change that it felt like the week was filled with mania! I was responsible for the Mission Moments each day for the children. This year the boys raised money for the persecuted church and the girls for New Day Foster Home in Beijing. Then on Wednesday I was responsible for teaching the children the Bible story. I was playing the storyteller Rahab from Joshua in the Old Testament. The kids in both lessons were very attentive and my costume was a little wild with lots of make-up because of her old job. I just told the kids that I used to be a “very bad woman” and went from there. They had lots of questions at the end of each lesson that were really good and showed me that they had been paying attention which was nice. Here’s the outfit:
Nadia was in the younger toddler room all week and did great, but it made for really long days for her. Then in the afternoon she had swim lessons. So on Friday Mike went to work late so that she could stay home, rest and have her nap at the normal time. Poor thing was just beat after all her activity, but so was I! Click on the photo below for the slideshow:
A’Jani and his little brother joined us at VBS each day, and on Thursday we all had lunch at Wendy’s.
And here are the other 2 videos I put together for New Day Foster Home. I used them for the mission moment and told New Day they can use them however they see fit.

Love the videos for New Day Home. Great job! And I see Miss Nadia still loves those red boots…too cute for words!!!
We just started VBS today, our kids are so excited! What kind of camera does Mike have? He always takes the most amazing pictures!
Hope you enjoy a more “normal” week!
I didn’t take any of those pictures. But, since the camera question has been asked a few times recently…
I use a Canon EOS 10D with professional lenses, and we have a Canon PowerShot S3 IS as our “point-and-shoot” and video-clip camera. That being said though, I had three semesters of photography in college, and spent probably 1000 hours in the darkroom. Plus I’ve probably spent an additional thousand hours or more post-processing pictures on the computer in Photoshop and other software.
Photography is more about the photographer than the camera. The best improvements you will see in your photographs will come from learning some simple tips about photography and about how to take good photos with the equipment you have. There are lots of free web sites online with good general advice and examples. I’d suggest getting started by reading some of the articles and examples at places like photo.net. You could also google something like, “beginning photography” and find some good, simple resources.
Oh my gosh — before I finished reading your first paragraph, I was looking at the picture and thinking, “gee, Louanne sure dresses differently and wears a lot more make-up for church than she does in any of her other pictures….” OH, she’s Rahab!
I LOVE the pictures from the 14th. But Mike, while I agree that photography is more about the photographer than the camera, it also doesn’t hurt that you have such a beautiful, charming subject!
Again, that video is awesome!!! I love VBS but it wears you out. Ours starts in 3 weeks and I was informed Sunday I was in charge of the toddler age, oh my I am gonna be dragging that week!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful photos too
How cute is Nadia in that red, white and blue outfit with ladybug boots?
Great all the way around! Mike - thanks for the photography info, I too have been wondering. You really are very talented and I am appreciative to have the opportunity to see all your wonderful work.
Just having a giggle at Kathy P’s comment - sure hope you don’t get that dressed up for Church EVERY Sunday Louanne!!

Well, at the very least, I hope she wears shoes! Unless it’s different in her neck of the woods….
