A Year Today!!!
Louanne on Jul 22nd 2008
It’s hard to believe that one year ago today the most wonderful child was placed in our arms. God has blessed us with Nadia and she is a delight to have as a part of our life. I remind myself so often that we thought our wait would be so short and then Nadia wasn’t even born until 1 year after our paperwork was in China. I can’t imagine any other child for us.
Here is a little walk down memory lane (I am working on a 1 year video which will be posted here…someday).

Ok, I may be a bit biased but I do think Suichuan has blessed us with the smartest, prettiest, most amazing little girls. We are so lucky!!
What a blessing indeed!!!! Still can’t believe 1yr already, Nadia is such a beautiful little girl
Congratulations, and thank you for taking us along on your walk down memory lane….
I think it’s the most exercise I got today! (kidding)
Looking forward to the video, but, spend today with your husband and daughter.
Wow! A full year. That’s amazing and wonderful and all sorts of other exciting. We’re so blessed to have you guys in our church family.
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures. Hope the day is a wonderful celebration of that most important one a year ago.
I love the picture of Nadia looking out the window. Congratulations, Mom and Dad!
Congratulations to you, Mike and Nadia. I agree with Jacquelyn regarding the picture of Nadia looking out of the window. So cute. If I had to guess what she was thinking, I would say she is thinking about how lucky ALL of you are that you were united as a family last year!!!
Take care and have a great day!!! CTG
Have a wonderful anniversary, my favourite Texan family!!! God bless you all on this very special day.

Congrats to the 3 of you! So hard to believe it’s already been a year.
I am so happy I was able to talk to you yesterday! I cannot believe it’s been a whole year! SO much has happened in this past year that it seems incredible to think it’s only been one year. Time is crazy like that.
I miss you! I cannot wait to spend tons of time with you, mike and nadia! YAY!
LOVE YOU ALL!!!
Oh, Lou! I’ve lost track of my dates here!!! Has it really been a YEAR since I was at my aunt’s house anxiously refreshing your home page every few minutes so I could see Baby Nadia for myself???
I will not soon forget that day! And what a blessing your baby girl is to our family! Congratulations!
I love you! ~jen
Congratulations on one year! It really doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. When I finally got to see your video this morning, I was amazed at how much she resembles Alyssa. Even in the way she uses her spoon to eat. We’re going to have to plan another trip to TX so we can get them together again. We’re just starting to think about how we’ll spend our day when 1 year gets here.

What a joyous day that was when Nadia came into our lives! We have all been truly blessed each & every day! You & Mike are the most loving , giving and caring parents in the world and we are so blessed that God placed Nadia in your care. Thank you both for the sweet and precious little girl she had become. Hats off to you both!
Love you so much,
Nonni, Papa & Michael

Look how much she’s grown since those first photos! What a sweet, sweet blessing she is. I can’t wait to have her in my (Children’s Church) class in a few years.
So, what do y’all call this day? It’s not exactly a birthday, but it’s more special than an anniversary, right?
The most common term people use is “Gotcha Day.” Some people don’t like that and think it is somehow demeaning or insulting to the child. I disagree and don’t mind it at all, because it is the day we got Nadia and she got us.
Some people call it “Adoption Day,” but I don’t think that really fits (at least not in our case), since technically the “adoption” wasn’t final the day we got her.
Still others call it “Forever Family Day,” but I’ve never liked that one because we were already a family before Nadia came along. Our family didn’t begin with her. Also, if you have or adopt another child, what do you call that day…”Forever Family Day, Mark II?”
And finally, many people name it for the child, for example, “Nadia Day.” I like that one, too.
What we will probably do is continue to call July 22, “Gotcha Day,” and observe it privately in some small way…like the three of us going out to dinner. We will probably make a much bigger deal out of July 31 and call that day “Nadia Day.” It is the day we got back home from China, the day she became an American citizen, and, coincidentally, the day she will be re-adopted this year and get a Texas Birth Certificate. And as anyone from Texas will tell you…that’s the most important day of all!
I am so moved that Nadia got so nice parents like you two! I think you two will make Nadia happy and lucky forever! By the way, I miss you three so much and hope we can meet again in China!
And you continue to be what is right with the world! May God continue to bless you richly. I love you guys.
I love the walk down memory lane. She is as cute as she was back then, and it has been so much fun to watch her personailty bloom.
Playing catch up from having our Internet cables cut (don’t ask, bah! but as soon as I have three uninterrupted minutes I will blog about it, haha!). I just had to leave you a comment on this post. It is SO hard to believe it’s been a year already. I followed your journey to China and lived through you. I fell, deeply, in love with your Nadia and to this day just can’t get enough of her. I loved seeing the ‘then and now’ pic’s. Funny, she still looks JUST like the then pic’s. Just more hair.
I so enjoy the photos of you and Mike with Nadia. The love for this little girl shines through so brightly. It makes my heart smile. Every time.
