Peterman Visit 2015

First stop after a long drive = Freebirds!

The Peterman’s came down to visit us earlier in the month as a stop off on their summer vacation. Both Mike and Randy had to work all week, but us ladies kept busy during the day. We had so much fun and ate SO MUCH FOOD! On Sunday we took it easy because they had spent all day driving to get to us. Then on Monday we went up to the Jeng Chi to eat and see the Moon Cake forming. On Tuesday we went to the Arlington Museum of Art to see the Toulouse Lautrec exhibit. After the art exhibit we made a stop at Half Price Books and then on to lunch at Chuys!

At Chuy’s the big girls kept getting up to go to the bathroom and Dani was like, “Forget them, I am going to keep dipping everything on the table in my jalapeno ranch.” That night the adults went to Cane Rosso for dinner and Melt Ice Cream for dessert. Totally amazing and I am glad we could introduce Randy and Jess to them both.

Wednesday we headed for the Fort Worth Science and History museum to see the IMAX documentaries on “Robots” and “Journey to the South Pacific.” Both of them were interesting, but Dani didn’t like the one on robots. I asked her why and she said, “Because dey have no eyes!” We had packed a lunch and ate outside before checking out the new design exhibit.

Wednesday night dinner at Twisted Root. They had Pistachio Root Beer.

On Thursday we took it easy and let the kids play all day and then met some friends at Feedstore BBQ. Friday we hung out around the house all day and Jess had to break down and pack so they could hit the road later in the evening.

And one last photo for fun. Dani put Jess in “jail” and here she is telling her she can’t get out and she has to eat worms and drink coffee. Look at her face!

Going away lunch for my friend Robin.

The yearly Families with Children from China swim party.

The girls were given an entire Calico Critter set from a “big” girl who doesn’t play with hers anymore. So awesome.

Art Camp 2015

This sign was done by my friend Sarah who taught visual art in the prior years of camp. But she had a baby so I was filling in.

For this years visual arts class I decided to go with Modern Art because Sarah hadn’t done it yet and it could be bright and loud projects. I had 13 kids in each class and 4 teen helpers who were awesome. I couldn’t have done the week without them. Each day we worked on one or more projects and I talked to the kids about a different modern artist.

Amelie came to art camp in her casts since it was the week after her toe surgery. What a champ!

One of our projects was to mix black tempera paint with clear glue. Then make the pattern on white paper and let it dry. Then they filled the spots in with liquid watercolor.

Another project started with blank white canvas painted with white acrylic paint. Then on another piece of paper they painted “splotches” with liquid water color and we let them dry. Then the next day they cut them out into triangles and squares and glued them onto their canvas. Then the helpers and I covered the pieces that wouldn’t stay down with extra mod podge.

One project was to make modern art ice cream cones. Nadia said, “This flavor is Batman and it tastes like Justice!”

One of the most fun projects we did was to make our own version of “Chihuly” blown glass. The kids colored on clear solo cups with sharpie markers and then I baked them in the oven. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but they melt down and curl up a lot. The kids and the parents really loved these.

On the last day we put out a big display of all the kids work for the week so the parents could see it and then take it home. It was a really great week with all the kids and I was so proud of Amelie for making it through the whole week in her casts.

TCU Music Class 2015

When Nadia and Amelie were little I put them in the Music Together class at TCU and I was happy that Dani was going to get a turn. We took the summer session and had so much fun together on Monday nights. Aunt Tahni even came with us the week that she was visiting and it was really cute. On the last day of class you can bring a camera which is always a treat. Dani really got into the class and would get up and dance and she was happy to try all the instruments.
