Dani’s 1 month check up

Silly girl in the bath before the appointment

As I was going through photos I realized that I never posted about Dani’s one month check up at Texas Scottish Rite. It happened on August 7th and the short version is that she is doing perfect! Dr. Birch said that she couldn’t have healed better and that everything looks fantastic. He said to keep letting her judge what she felt comfortable doing, but that we were safely past the point that her femur should be fine. In the first 30 days there was a chance that it could snap if she was pushed too hard. Yuck!

This cool projector is in the waiting area of the orthopedic section and the girls love it when we come for appointments.

This is a photo of her x-ray and you can see the pins in her pelvis and the metal on her femur. Dr. Birch told us he wanted to see us again in 3 months. He also said again that it would be about 6 months for full mobility. He also said they would want to take all the metal out at about 6 months post cast removal. That should only require an overnight stay in the hospital and a bandage. Whew!

Dani conquers the beach!

Mike got a bunch of photos from our last evening at the beach. I tried to narrow it down to my favorites (hard to do), but you can click on the photo above to see the whole album.

Road Trip home

Sept 10, 2014
Taggie at the beach

We woke up on Wednesday the 10th, had breakfast and while the girls watched TV we finished getting everything packed up so we could head home. We took a leisurely pace because I wasn’t feeling so great and around the time we were getting close to Houston I realized I had left my wedding rings and a necklace in the nightstand!!!! I felt so stupid, but Mike was kind (as always) and said, “Let’s make it an adventure.” He suggested that we grab the jewelry, have lunch on the water and then get back on the road home. So we turned around and did that. We had lunch at Jimmy’s on the Pier and it was wonderful. The girls practically inhaled the fried pickles and the size of the entrees was huge. I was glad that the girls split a burger and then Dani and I split a big salad. It was nice and cool with the breeze blowing and the sound of the ocean to relax us. So my mistake worked out just fine, whew!

Sunset when getting close to home

The girls did great on the drive as they always do. Once we got home the girls had a good time winding down and playing with the toys they had “missed” while at the beach. Then it was time for bed – especially for me.

September 9, 2014

On our 4th day at the beach we headed down first thing in the morning. The girls continued the games they had been playing the last time. There was still seaweed on the beach, but not piles of it in the water like the other days which was fun for the girls. After we had lunch and a nap we headed down to the Strand to have ice cream and buy salt water taffy at La Kings. The ice cream was so good! Then we headed down to walk along the seawall and take some photos before heading back for dinner.

We had the beach to ourselves

On day 5 we had a morning of play and movies then lunch and a nap. Then we spent hours at the beach, took photos and stayed out until the sun went down. It was a perfect last night at the beach. I am going to do a separate post with photos that Mike took on our last night. Thanks again to Cynthia and Harold for letting us use their house.
