2 weeks with Nadia

Nadia's announcement photo

It’s 4:30 am and the whole family is awake. Luckily we all got some sleep tonight before Nadia was hungry and ready to play some more. Sunday was 2 weeks that she has been a part of our life and she is just so sweet. She has continued to bond to us very well. We took her to the doctor on Friday and she confirmed that it was a little cold and to keep giving her meds. She thought that her muscle tone was good and that she would really start catching up on a lot of stuff in the next month. She changed the formula to see if it helps with the reflux and we have been weaning Nadia off the Chinese formula and on to the new stuff. She also wanted us to start giving her solids 3 times a day which is a new event for Nadia. She is not quite sure how her mouth and tongue are supposed to work with this, but she gets better every time. The doctor basically told us to give her as much food as she wants as often as she wants since she just weighed in at 13 pounds 12 ounces!!! The doctor also told us that it’s good that she has some stranger anxiety and only wants the two of us to hold her as that shows she is bonding well.

We took her to Grapevine Mills on Saturday to hit the Carters outlet. Most of her clothes are TOO big, so we had to go and buy her some 6 month outfits to tide her over until she fattens up! She enjoyed being in her stroller and checking out all the people and bright lights of the mall. Nadia doesn’t like to be constrained in the car seat, but we have been taking her out a couple of times every day to get her used to it and tonight she seemed a lot better than she has been.

Her Fort Worth debut has been fun. She has seen Grammie, Aunt Paula and Uncle Roger, Aunt Joy and Janis, Laura and a whole lot of people at church today. Everyone swarmed around her today especially the little girls that were in my VBS class this summer and we got some great photos of them with her. I was excited to see everyone at church who had prayed for us and been such a wonderful support on this journey, and I was fine until we went down to communion. We got over near Karen M. and she just started crying looking at Nadia (tears of joy) and so I started crying and then a bunch of people all around Karen started crying. It was sweet. Walt and Lauren brought a meal for us and it was great to just come home and heat it up and have a yummy salad. I was very grateful for that today as I had been up almost all night due to working myself around the clock off the jet lag. I am very happy to be feeling much better each day and not so disoriented.

Nadia will continue to meet new people this week and have more car seat practice. Her Aunt Tahni is coming for a visit on Monday and on Wednesday we are going to a Fort Worth CATS baseball game with people from church and some of the KIDS HOPE USA kids. Some people from our church will be singing the National Anthem which should be great.

Nadia’s Clippys

Hi all. We have been getting many comments on Nadia’s little hair clippys from the photos, wondering where we bought them. I got them at Lil’ Sugarplum.

The woman who makes them is named Monique and she is a stay at home mom who was looking for a clip that would stay in babies thin hair, so she made them herself. If you decide to order, please feel free to mention my name as she has a referral program and I would love to add to Nadia’s collection *wink, wink* Anyway, they stay in awesome and it only takes a little bit of hair to hold them in place. Nadia doesn’t mess with hers at all and they are so darn cute!!

I just wanted a hot shower…..

Yes, it’s 4:45 am and we are all up, it’s dinner time you see and our bodies are ready to go 🙂

I want to start by saying that the jet lag is killing me. I feel so off kilter and messed up that I can’t even describe it. Waiting parents need to be ready for this. Mike is doing well and we seem to be doing good as a tag team – one can play with baby while the other sleeps and so on. If your spouse has to go back to work right away make sure that you have someone around for back up when you are just so tired.

Anyway, I slept from about 10 pm to 12 am and then got up to see Nadia. She got back to sleep around 1:45 and I thought, “Maybe a hot shower will help relax me and I can go back to sleep.” I was feeling a bit weepy and worn out and just wishing that I could get back to normal. So Mike is chatting with me and I get the shower going. I take my glasses off – I have terrible eyesight without them – and get in the shower. I start to wet down my hair and feel something on my leg. I reach down to grab it and it moves. Right then I realize it’s a spider and start screaming. I become totally paralzyed with fear and can’t stop screaming. With my limited eyesight I think the thing is as big as a house. Mike throws open the shower door and says, “Get out.” He throws a towel around me and tries to get me calmed down.

This was NOT what jet lagged momma needed. So Mike gets the spider who has drowned at that point and tells me all is clear. I am soaking wet and still wishing for a shower. So I calm down, put my contacts in and Mike says he will triple check the shower for me. He moved all the shampoo bottles and looked all around and in the door hinge. He said I was safe and I asked him not to leave until I was done. LOL. The start of the shower was nerve wracking, but by the end the hot water had worked its magic and I felt better. But as you can see….I am still awake….and planning the death of all future spiders I come across.

We’re Home! (Thankful Thursday AM)

First because it was asked on another post, baby Madison who was sick got much better by the end of our trip and the family is great! I think that they head home from China today. God is good!

It’s 2:30 am and Nadia was wide awake until about 5 minutes ago, which is good since Mike and I are feeling like zombies. Thanks to my mom for coming to visit us at the hotel and dropping us at the airport and for the presents for Nadia. Thanks to Roger and Paula for picking us up after midnight since our plane was delayed 3 times. Thanks to Joy and Janis for the fresh food and new toys for Nadia. I had a salad just a few minutes ago. YUM! Thanks to all the people that left welcome home messages on my cell phone, that was really sweet.

I will post more tomorrow and hope that we can get on American time pretty quick. It’s a relief to be home and around familiar things. As Mike was driving us home from the airport I was saying, “Yeah for the QT, yeah for SuperTarget, yeah for ……” You get the idea. I am just dying for a burger and mashed potatoes (not together).

And I just weighed myself becuase my clothes had become so baggy and I lost 10 pounds in China! WOO HOO!! (At least all that upset stomach got me something….hee hee) I plan on macking down on plenty of food in the next week to make up for that.

Love you guys, Louanne
