TT- please pray for this family

If you are wondering how this is a Thankful Thursday (TT) post, all I have to say is that I am thankful for Mike and Nadia. Thankful that I didn’t have to face this sort of heartache in China. Thankful that we have come home and settled into a most wonderful life. Thankful that I can hug them tight each day. But I have been thinking and praying for this woman since I first heard the news on Monday and wanted to share her story.

This week I want to ask you to pray for this family by reading my post. The family is a part of one of my yahoo groups and this past weekend in China the husband went into a diabetic coma and died. They already had their “red book” which is the absolute most important document you are given in China. I have shown it to many of you…it’s the paper that says the child is yours. The mother Sandi just found out that the US Consulate is refusing to issue the visa for her child since the husband died and they want her to refile her 171H with her new marital status. This process can take months in the US and so they are basically telling her that she would have to leave the child. Where would she leave the child? In China’s eyes they have no responsibility since the child is Sandi’s.

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to lose Mike in China and then be told that I couldn’t bring Nadia home because of our government. Yes, I understand that there are rules, but I also understand that there are people coming here every day illegally and this family has done everything by the book and her child should not be denied the chance to come home because her husband died. In the age of mass communication there is no reason that this can’t be taken care of through phone and internet. There is no reason for her to have to leave her child behind to get this paperwork accomplished. As it’s stated below they are making no guarantees that she would even be approved if she re-filed and came home. Then once again – where would that leave Hannah. To China she is now a US Citizen’s child and not their responsibility. They have done their part in finding a home for this child and taking care of all their paperwork. This whole thing is just heartbreaking.

  • Edit as of 2:40 PM. Sandi’s family has requested that no one else contact their congressmen. More than 1000 people have called and I think the message on behalf of her has been spread. Please continue to pray that this could move forward and that she can bring Hannah home.

She’s a walker!!!

Video coming soon as we need to edit the little tidbits I have been able to catch in the last day or so. I thought I would put up a comparison shot for today. The first photo is from August 10th 2007 when her highchair was just too darn big and she wasn’t too stable with the sitting up thing. The other is from today, the first time I put her back in the highchair to see how she fits. It’s still a little big and we will keep using the hippo chair, but I thought this would be fun.

Look at all that hair she has now and how much fatter those cute little cheeks have become. And of course she is about 2 inches taller. Love it!!

Thankful Thursday

What did I do?

  • For friends. My life is made richer by the people that touch my life.
  • For getting to spend my days with Nadia. It’s so fun to be a mom and watch all the entertaining things she does. The photo above shows how entertaining the wipes suddenly were today 🙂
  • For Nadia taking more steps each day. When she is distracted she really gets going. But if you try to get her to walk she just sits down. It’s cute.
  • For my friends in China now who will be coming home in the next few days (Terri and Maureen). And for people who left this week who will see their babies face this weekend (CTG). Have fun!!!
  • For how fast Nadia’s hair is growing in and how cute it looks going 12 different directions in the morning.
  • For a dear friends mom finding out that her cancer was removed and she doesn’t have to have chemotherapy.
  • For Good Eats – don’t laugh…it’s an awesome cooking show with good recipes AND learning.

Colorado Trip

Colorado 2007 (click to see album)

Okay this is the second part of the trip we took in October…we just had so much going on I had to do them as separate posts. We went to Denver to visit with our friends the Petermans who have been up there for about 3 years now. I miss Jessica dearly and so it was great to see their house and life in CO. We flew in on Saturday, and Sunday it snowed most of the day. So Nadia went from the beach in Santa Barbara on Friday to her first snow day on Sunday! On Monday we drove down to Colorado Springs and went to the Garden of the Gods and to the Cave of the Winds. We ate at a tasty place called ZIOS where Nadia scarfed down their mac and cheese like there was no tomorrow. And thanks to Randy for updating the blog…very handy for my posting. 🙂

Here are a few of my favorite photos, but click the one above to see the whole slide show.

Now check out these shots Mike got…the bird flying down and then sitting on the top of the rock. In person, if you blinked you would have missed it.
