Pre-surgery outside play

Dani loves to take baths in our kitchen sink and so I thought she should be introduced to our kiddie pool and water table before surgery. She liked the water table a lot more than the pool, but I expected that and she spent a lot of time watching and laughing at stuff her big sisters did.

In addition to playing outside, we gave her a long bath every day leading up to the surgery and then let her run around in her diaper since we knew she would be trapped in the cast for months.

We also spent many evenings outside on the porch swing and playing in the front yard.

The Mini Train Ride

At the beginning of May I thought we should try to do as many fun outside things as possible. Once the surgery happened we knew it would be harder to get around and we couldn’t have Dani out in the body cast getting overheated. We planned to go to the zoo, but when we drove up the main parking lot was already full and they were directing cars to the gravel lot on the other side of the street. We drove in and realized we had never had to park so far away and that the zoo was just going to be too crowded to be comfortable. So we decided we would go ride the Forest Park Mini Train since Dani had never been on it.

We had about 15 minutes to wait for the next train ride, so the girls wandered around the waiting area playing and picking up rocks. Once the train pulled in and the other riders got off we snagged the last car, which was fun for the big girls. At the halfway point the train stops inside Trinity Park to pick up new riders and for people to buy snacks. Mike grabbed popcorn and bottled water and we were ready to go. Dani went after her box with her typical gusto!

Once the ride was over we decided we would check out the Clearfork Food Truck park off University. The food was delicious, but surprisingly expensive for food trucks. Once we finished eating the girls had a good time playing in the seating area.

It was a really nice day and then we headed home for the girls to get a nap. I also told the girls that we would get to the zoo before Dani’s surgery so we could see the GIGANTABUGS and they were really excited.

Thankful Thursday

  • A very late post, but we are thankful that at Dani’s 2 week check up we got great news. Dr. Birch and Dr. Miller said she looked great and that we wouldn’t need to come back until July 7th when they put her under to take off the cast and check the leg. Then if it looks good she wakes up and goes home. If not, they put it back on for another 4 weeks.
  • We are SO THANKFUL for all the people that have brought us food or given us Gift Cards so we haven’t had to think about cooking.
  • Also for all the people who have offered to clean or do laundry or run errands. You have blessed us even if we didn’t take you up on the offers.

*I have blog posts all about the surgery and first two weeks coming up soon. The first 10 days or so were really rough and we are coming out of the haze now.*

Thankful Thursday

We are thankful for how well Dani’s hip surgery went last week at Texas Scottish Rite. They had to do “the full court press” on her, but the doctors said it went as well as it could have. We also got to return home after just two nights in the hospital which was an amazing blessing.

She is very frustrated with the cast and being unable to move on her own, but we are hoping the worst of that will be over soon.
