I love the Olympics!

Last night we TIVO’d the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and if you haven’t seen them - try to find it online or see if it’s being replayed. It was totally awesome!!! The sheer numbers of people and props that were put into the ceremony is just mind boggling.
I love all the work the athletes put into their sport. And really one of my favorite things is all the little back stories that they tell that bring me to tears. Like America’s flag bearer being a refugee from the Sudan… now an American and competing for us. Or the little boy who walked along side Yao Ming the flag bearer for China. He was a 9 year old survivor from the May earthquake. 20 of his 30 classmates were killed in the quake. He dug himself out and then went back for 2 other classmates. When asked why he said, “I am a class leader. It was my responsibility.” WOW!! That child’s parents should be proud and how great of China to let him be a part of the opening ceremonies.

I absolutely agree with you!
PS I miss you SO much already! WAHHHHHHHHHHH
I loved it too! The story about the little boy brought me to tears. Plus Yao seemed to be so good with him.
I’ve been LOVING watching the olympics this year–well, except for the women’s weightlifting…that was disturbing. WHY?! Anyway, I had to switch the channel!
BUT, I’ve also been thinking of you every time they pan out and show scenes from Bejing…does it remind you of your temporary “home”?
I love you!!! GO USA!!!
(And, how sweet was that to beat the “Frenchies”?! ;))
I too am loving the Olympics. I am seriously into the Olympics, every single year all life stops in our house (and hubby knows it!) so I can sit and watch watch watch. This year, it’s just all the more special. I got all teary watching some of the scenes and landmarks they were showing. The opening ceremonies where amazing. I hope NBC is going to sell it on dvd, I’d love to have it for when Emi can really watch (she did watch the whole thing with me … we also tapped or rather dvr’d it). She enjoyed most of it, but the drums made her nervous. Of course, I loved it. She loved the children carrying the flag and all the fireworks.
Enjoy!
The opening ceremonies were so great that we watched them twice (well, not the loooooong parade of nations twice, though!)
